Shirley was born into this life on June 26th, 1931, to Floyd and LeVeda Reeves in Denver, Colorado, and she passed into her accepted gift of everlasting life two days after celebrating her 94th birthday on June 28th, 2025.
Shirley’s childhood began in the Westwood neighborhood of North Denver. She was followed in birth order by her two siblings, LeRoy and Delores. When they were still young, Shirley’s parents moved to what was then very rural North Arvada at the corner of 68th Avenue and Carr Street, where her father farmed a small crop of mostly grain. Shirley’s mother wasn’t enthused about moving that far out of town. They began living on the property in a large tent with a path to the most vital room of any house until her father could build a more permanent home there. Shirley undoubtedly helped out with the chores with the few farm animals they kept, as well as a bit with the tasks of the small farm.
She grew up in this Christian household, and her dad’s father was a traveling preacher of God’s Word, who briefly lived in an adjacent one-room home that her dad had built for him. Shirley accepted God as her Lord and Savior at a young age, and the family attended the Arvada Church of God, located within a mile from their home, which her father had helped build.
Shirley graduated from Arvada High School in 1949. This included having attended the school building, which today is called the School House Kitchen, located in Olde Town Arvada. Another school Shirley attended was one that has since been torn down, near the corner of Ralston Road and Wadsworth Boulevard.
Shirley met a young man named Eddie Moore at a combined youth group gathering with North Denver Church of God. Shirley and Ed ultimately married in April of 1950. They welcomed their firstborn son, Herman Edward, Jr., in 1951, their daughter, Judith Ann, in 1954, and their youngest, Glenn Edward, in 1958. Shirley and Ed raised their family in the smaller home that her father had built on the Arvada property until they outgrew it, and her parents no longer needed the larger home. Ed and Shirley then purchased the larger home and surrounding property, with her parents retaining the smaller home next door.
After Shirley had raised their three children to school age, she got her first job as a switchboard operator at the Mountain Bell phone company. Shirley found her true vocational fit in sales working for Sears selling draperies, and later furniture, quite a bit later in life. Upon her retirement from sales, Shirley helped in her husband’s business, answering the phone and performing other duties in the manufacturing of rubber stamps.
Shirley was preceded in death by her immediate family members, beginning with her parents, Floyd Reeves in 2002, and LeVeda Reeves before him in 1989. Shirley’s husband, Herman Edward Moore, preceded her in death in 2012. She is survived by her three children, and their spouses (in parentheses), Ed (Kathy), Judy (Rick), and Glenn. Shirley is also survived by her four grandsons, Brian (Wendy) and Scott (April) Moore, as well as Tyson (Amy) and Troy (Tonisha) Schrecengost. Beyond that, Shirley was blessed to be survived by seven great-grandchildren, Garrison Moore, Titus, Alie, and Tucker Schrecengost, as well as Wyatt, Carter, and Beckett Schrecengost.
