Obituary

Richard Andrew Abeyta, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, in Denver, Colorado. Born on November 8, 1948, in New Mexico, Richard was 77 years old at the time of his passing. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Maxine Abeyta, and their children, April Gonzales and Brian Abeyta. Richard's family legacy continues through his grandchildren, Justin, Jordan, and Sierra Gonzales, and Rudy Abeyta, as well as his great-grandchildren, Justin Jr., Jeremiah, Everleigh, and Augustaly and good friend Danny Romero.

Richard dedicated 42 years of his life to his career as a pressman at the Denver Post. His feisty and outgoing personality, coupled with a natural inclination to delegate, made him a well-respected figure amongst his peers and colleagues. He was also a romantic, always buying flowers for Maxine for "no reason at all"

Beyond his career, Richard was a man of many passions. He cherished the time spent dancing with his wife, often showcasing his dynamic dance moves, including the infamous worm at weddings. His love for music saw him dance until the very last note played. Additionally, he derived great pleasure from fishing and playing blackjack.

Richard was a championship wrestler during his high school years in Cheyanne, Wyoming, a testament to his determination, spirit and hard-work. He frequently reminisced about attending the annual Frontier Days back home in Cheyanne with Maxine, cherishing those memories.

He is also survived by his brothers Joseph, David, Greg, Christopher, and Michael Abeyta, and sisters Marie Torres and Katheryn Castillo, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his siblings Roger Abeyta, Patricia Abeyta, Christian Abeyta, and his parents, Pasqual and Catarina Abeyta, as well as his stepfather, Jose Abeyta.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Jerry and Carmel Rodriguez and Paul and Peggy Lopez for their unwavering support during times of need, which has been a source of comfort through difficult moments.

Richard Andrew Abeyta's legacy will endure through the countless lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and will remain in our hearts forever.
