Obituary

Mary Kane Mauer, 90, of Westminster, Colo., passed peacefully in her sleep June 27th. Born Dec. 15, 1935, Mary grew up in Bethel Park, Pa., the eldest of four sisters. She was preceded in death by her sister, Roberta (Bobbie) Trautman, and is survived by sisters Roselyn Meier, and Patricia (Patty) Williams. Mary graduated high school in Bethel Park and married Ronald J. Mauer Sr. Together they raised a family of five children.

She was awarded a bachelor’s degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and worked for many years as a religious educator at St. Valentine parish in Bethel Park. Mary and Ron later moved to Valparaiso, Ind., where she earned a master’s degree from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., and continued her work as a religious educator at both St Mary of the Lake and St Paul parishes in Northwest Indiana.

Following her retirement from a career that culminated as director of religious education, Mary moved to Denver to spend her last years in view of her beloved Rocky Mountains. Mary is survived by her children Joni, of Bainbridge Island, Wash., Cathy (Jane), of Denver, Colo., Ron Jr (Carolin) of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Mike (Marsey), of Lauderhill, Fla., and Dave (Cheryl), of Valparaiso, Ind. Mary has six grandchildren, Robin, Sarah (Andy), Lindsay (Nick), Matt (Shana), Rae (Zach), and Ken, and two great-grandsons, River (Lindsay & Nick) and Bennett (Sarah & Andy). Memorial services are pending.
