Marval Ann Fairbanks, born on August 16, 1950, in Pierre, South Dakota, left this world on January 21, 2026, in Commerce City, Colorado. Her journey through life was marked by a profound commitment to her family and career, which served as the foundation of her legacy.
She spent over 45 years working for the state of South Dakota as a social worker, helping families and children in her community. Her sweet spirit shone brightly, resonating with kindness and gentleness that made her a mom to everyone who walked through her door. Marval's home was a sanctuary, filled with love, laughter, and the aromas of her beloved cooking, where family and friends were always welcomed with a warm plate.
Her true accomplishments, however, lay in her unwavering support for her two beloved sons, Jim and Damon Parks and their families. The bond she shared with them was unbreakable, as she would travel across the country to cheer them on during family events and sporting activities.
Marval found immense joy in life, particularly in the presence of animals. A lover of horses, dogs, and cats, she reveled in long walks along the Missouri River, where she found solace in nature's beauty. Her ability to see the little details that often went unnoticed allowed her to appreciate life fully, ensuring that each moment was filled with meaning and joy.
In her departure, she rejoined her beloved son Jim, her parents, Marvin Gandy and Valda Odemark Gandy, and her dear friend and neighbor Marilyn. Though they may be separated by time, their love continues to resonate in the hearts of all who knew her. She is survived by her son Damon Parks and his wife Livi, Terri Parks, wife of Jim, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marval Ann Fairbanks will be fondly remembered for her kindness, her passion for life, and the love she shared so abundantly. Her legacy of embracing beauty in the everyday and supporting those she loved will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. As we reflect on her life, we celebrate her spirit, forever a part of our memories and hearts.
