Margaret Marie Stonehocker, lovingly known as Margie, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on May 23, 1930, in Denver, Colorado, Margie’s warmth, wit, and signature sense of style made a lasting impression on everyone who had the joy of knowing her.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Stonehocker; her beloved granddaughter, Carrie Apodaca; her great-grandson, Eddie Thomas; and siblings Delores Bustamante, Daniel Haynes, and Kelly Haynes.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Linda Osterhout; grandchildren Christina Apodaca (Tim Nolan) and Keith Apodaca (Tracy Apodaca); great-grandchildren Michael Neiberger, Theresa Zambori, Stephanie DeBord, Ava Apodaca and Maritza Apodaca; and four great-great-grandchildren who were lucky enough to know her love. Margie is also survived by siblings Patty Vigil, David Haynes, and Shirley Haynes, along with many extended family members and dear friends.
Margie built a life rooted in love, joy, and just the right amount of mischief. She proudly lived in the same Denver home for 52 years, where her yard became a magical sanctuary. In her earlier years, Margie worked as a switchboard operator and elevator operator at a public service building. For more than 20 years, she was a proud and active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (Aerie 4019). There, she took care of the landscaping and flowers with the same love and attention she gave her own home. Affectionately known as “the groundskeeper,” Margie earned Volunteer of the Year in 2007/2008, along with several other awards recognizing her commitment and spirit.
A celebration of life will be held in her honor on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 4019 (8800 Federal Blvd, Federal Heights, CO 80260). The Eagles was a second home to Margie for many years, and the family looks forward to gathering with those who loved her to share stories, laughter, and maybe even a Johnny Mathis tune or two.
Donations or arrangements may be sent to Linda Osterhout at 9400 Elm Court #587, Denver, CO 80260.
Margie’s legacy lives on in the generations of family she loved, the friendships she cultivated, and the beauty she brought to the world — one flowerbed, one outfit, and one delightfully sarcastic remark at a time.
