Joseph Russell Smith, 92, of Arvada, Colo., a loving husband and father, passed away October 20, 2016. Born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, he worked as a retail display designer and artist. He married Karin Axelsson of Haga, Sweden in 1960. He and Karin built a house near Old Town, Arvada, where they raised a family. Joseph enjoyed traveling, the outdoors, gardening and spending time with family in the U.S. and in Sweden. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Rachel Smith Temmer of Denver; a son, James Lowell Smith of Rottweil, Germany; a granddaughter, Jennifer Hils of Germany, and two great granddaughters. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, November 5 in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 7891 West 44th Avenue in Wheat Ridge.
