Janet Cecelia (McCarthy) Sietmann, 79, died on Sunday, September 13, 2026 in Lakewood, CO. Wife of Terry Sietmann; mother of Renee Hardy, Caroline Sietmann and Kevin Sietmann; sister of Gerald McCarthy and David McCarthy; sister-in-law of Carol Schmidt, Lynn McCarthy, and Rick and Ellen Sietmann; aunt of Morgan and Madison McCarthy, and Ron Sietmann, Todd Sietmann and Jeaneen Bennett; grandmother of Esme and Zeke Sietmann; mother-in-law of Siglen Woitek and Dustin Hardy. 

Janet was born on July 13, 1947 in Chicago to Patricia and Clarence David McCarthy, Jr. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Southern Illinois University, where she met Terry, and also studied at Mankato State University. They raised their three children in Minnesota and then retired to Colorado. Janet was a long-time employee at the Macalester College library in St. Paul, MN and also worked at the museum and the library in LeSueur, MN. 

She loved quilting, studying Irish language, traveling with her family and girlfriends, games, volunteering, and spending time with her grandchildren. Plans for a memorial service will be made in the future.
