Obituary

Gregory Allan Port (Greg), 69, of Arvada, Colorado, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026, following a brief illness.

Greg was born on October 12, 1956, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Orval (“Jim”) Port and Grace (Montagne) Port. As the oldest of six children, he carried a strong sense of independence and an adventurous spirit throughout his life.

A 1974 graduate of Heelan Catholic High School in Sioux City, Greg went on to earn an associate degree in Architectural Drafting and Design from Western Iowa Tech in 1978. He later relocated to the Denver area, where he combined his love of building and the outdoors into a meaningful career. In July 2002, he earned his General Contractor certificate from the International Conference of Building Officials. Over the years, Greg built and remodeled homes—including log and modular homes—taking great pride in his craftsmanship and his ability to bring projects to life.

Greg had a lifelong passion for motorcycles, which became a defining part of who he was. Once he found Harley-Davidsons, his loyalty never wavered. He cherished long cross-country rides to visit family and friends, often arriving in black leather with the sounds of classic 1970s rock accompanying him. He also gave back to the community by participating in charity rides supporting cancer research and awareness.

In addition to his work and love of the open road, Greg valued giving his time to others. He volunteered as a tutor and mentor, including with the Denver Partners CYA-NE After School Program, where he offered encouragement and support to young people.

Greg is survived by his siblings, Bradley Port, Douglas Port, Michael (Lisa) Port, and Michelle (Scott) Port-Steffen; and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Trevor (Alyssa) Port, Jakob (Tasha Shelton) Steffen, Attica (Steffen) Gray, Duncan Port, Kalvon Steffen, Brianna Port, and Rudy Steffen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Grace Port; his brother, Arnold Port; and his grandparents, Ralph and Lilia (Chartier) Montagne, and Orval and Isabel (Loetz) Port.

Greg will be remembered for his skilled hands, his generous spirit, and the joy he found on the open road and in the company of family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of Greg’s life will be held on Saturday, July 25, at 18447 W. 58th Drive, Golden, Colorado 80403. Family and friends are welcome to attend.

In place of flowers, donations in Greg’s memory may be made to a cancer research organization or a home improvement charity of your choice.
