Obituary

Gloria Erlinda Trujillo passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on February 8, 2026. She was born on September 29, 1945, in Leadville, Colorado, to Eloy and Eloisa Trujillo. A true native of Leadville, Gloria carried deep pride and love for the community she called home throughout her life.

On September 5, 1964, Gloria married Jose Gilbert Trujillo. Together they shared nearly 50 years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, family, and devotion, until Gilbert’s passing in 2013.

Gloria had a rare and beautiful gift for building and maintaining relationships. She had lifetime friendships, was loved by many and touched countless lives. She was the very definition of grace. Her home was never just a place—it was a door that never locked, a dinner table that always had room for one more, and a heart that embraced the worth in everyone. It is often said that everyone wants a village, but no one wants to be a villager. Gloria not only had a village—she was a villager for more people than we will ever know.

Her smile was infectious, and her love for her family knew no bounds. Gloria made every effort to host or attend family gatherings, whether reunions, weddings, birthdays, or simple visits. She also enjoyed daily calls with her siblings, children, grandchildren and friends. She found joy in many things, including bingo, bowling, the mountains, and car rides—especially those spent with her children, where conversation and the beauty of her surroundings brought her great happiness. She loved music, particularly Spanish music and oldies, though her tastes were wonderfully broad. Dancing, singing, cheering for the Denver Broncos, the game show channel were among her favorite pleasures.

A lifelong Catholic, Gloria was a devoted member of Holy Family Parish and found comfort in her favorite seat in the back of the church.

Gloria was one of the easiest people to talk to—caring, fun, and witty. She listened without judgment and offered thoughtful advice when asked. A true testament to who she was is the vast number of friends and family, both near and far, who stopped by to check on her or simply to visit. She always made sure guests had something to eat and drink and were comfortable. It was always a joy to hear her jokes, see her smile, listen to her stories, and share in her laughter.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Gilbert Trujillo; her parents, Eloy and Eloisa Alires; and her brothers and sisters Alex, Andy, Gilbert, Max, Bobby, Dennis, Charlie, Louie, Clotilde, Verna, Eve, and Gladys.

She is survived by her children Isaac Trujillo, Kathy Trujillo, Floyd (Carolyn) Trujillo, and Martha (Rick) Garcia; her grandchildren Monique (Chris) Opeka, Antionette Garcia, Alyssa Garcia, Jackie Trujillo, Julian Trujillo, Kiertsyn (Tim) Schwartz-Watjen, Cameron (Brenda) Schwartz, and Haley (Bobby) Suastegui; and her great-grandchildren Gabrielle and Alexis Opeka, Jackson and Skylar Schwartz, Amelia and Frances Schwartz-Watjen, and Charlotte Suastegui.
