July 13, 1923 ~ September 24, 2015 Born in Perry, Iowa, son of Frank and Edith Cowan. Preceded in death by his first wife Lois, daughter Nancy and son James. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lorraine; son John (Jan); stepson Stephen; stepdaughter Ann (Dale); four grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He attended Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa, one year before entering the service in World War II. After the war, he went back to Iowa State and completed his schooling, majoring in Civil Engineering. While in the Army, he served in England, France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany and Czechoslovakia as a radio telegraph and radio telephone operator. After the service, he moved to Colorado and formed his own company, Cowan Engineering and Surveying in 1958. Donald was instrumental in the beginning of Genesee – surveying on snow shoes in the winter. He worked on the Saint Vrain Supply Tunnel and did surveying work at Rocky Flats Nuclear Facility before it was built. He fully retired in 2008. He and Lorraine enjoyed traveling, hiking, and skiing. Donald enjoyed gardening and went at it in a big way
