Obituary

David Charles Martinez was born on February 16, 1944, to William G. Martinez and Barbara Ann Martinez. Raised in Denver among a large and loving family, David was one of many siblings, including Phyllis; William (deceased); Marjorie; Linda; and Richard. Family was always at the center of his life and remained one of his greatest sources of pride and connection.

David was a devoted father to Donnie Martinez (spouse Davida; mother Nancy), Richard “Rick” Martinez (deceased; spouse Janet), Stevie Martinez (deceased; mother Maxine - deceased), and John Martinez (spouse Erin). He loved his children deeply and showed that love in countless ways through guidance, humor, strength, and unwavering support.

A man of many talents and passions, David was a published songwriter and also better known for his lifelong love of sports. He not only played but gave back by coaching youth leagues for many years, staying actively involved in the lives of his family and community. He was an accomplished athlete excelling as a Golden Gloves boxer, a dedicated bowler who proudly achieved the first perfect “300” game at Western Bowl in Arvada, and a competitor of baseball, softball, and basketball. He also loved watching sports, especially tennis, golf, and cheering on local professional and collegiate teams.

David was also known for his natural ability to connect with people. As a bartender, he built lasting relationships with those he served so much so, that wherever he worked, people followed. His warmth, charisma, and authenticity created a sense of belonging for everyone around him.

Above all, David will be remembered for his heart. He loved deeply and fully offering tough love when it was needed and a gentle, compassionate presence when it mattered most. He had an instinct for knowing how to show up for others, especially in times of need.

David faced many health challenges over the years with resilience and strength. On April 8, 2026, he found peace and rest. His family takes comfort in knowing his suffering has ended.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and connection that will live on in all who knew him.
