Cordelia Marie Cain (Cora), 96, of Westminster, Colorado, passed peacefully into eternal life on July 20, 2025. Cora was born on February 18, 1929, in Pierz, Minnesota, to Edward and Regina (Terhaar) Stumpf. She grew up speaking German at home and learned English only when she began attending school. She graduated from St. Francis High School in Little Falls, MN in the class of 1947.
After high school, she moved to Virginia with her sister Marie. A couple of years later, she returned home. There she was persuaded by another sister, Woody, to join her in moving to Colorado. Once settled in Denver, she began her career working at Central Bank.
Cora married Jim Cain in 1959, and they had two children, Patrick (Michelle) Cain Sr. and Stephanie Cain. She and Jim shared a passion for entrepreneurship and together owned liquor stores as well as a security and home entertainment installation company.
Cora had a huge heart, a warm smile, and a passion for shopping, gardening, crafting, cooking, - and for either a stiff Manhattan or a hot cup of coffee. She deeply loved her family, especially her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her devotion to her grandchildren was unwavering: she cared for them deeply, ensured they always felt safe, and showed them unconditional love at every step of their lives.
Cora’s Catholic faith was the foundation of her life and remained central until the very end.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law Michelle Cain; grandchildren Alicia (Tyler) Stanworth, Zach Cain Johme, and Emily Cain; great-grandchildren Dylan and Marley Stanworth; brother Ernie Stumpf; sisters-in-law Joan Cain and Mary (Robert) Earley; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Cain; her children, Patrick and Stephanie; grandson Patrick Jr.; her sisters Irene Selinski, Lavina (“Woody”) Bonacci, and Marie Schultheis; and her brothers Edwin, Herb, Alfred, Roman, and Walter Stumpf.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Name Catholic Parish in Denver. The Rosary will precede the Mass at 10:00 a.m. A burial ceremony will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Denver Botanic Gardens.
